What matters most

Map weekly charging before choosing the car.

Favor efficient EVs over unnecessarily large batteries.

Check charging speed and route tools in the vehicle.

An EV can work for an apartment dweller, but the buying process has to start with charging rather than range. A large battery helps less if the driver cannot charge conveniently during normal weekly routines.

Map the actual charging plan before shopping. Workplace chargers, nearby fast chargers, grocery-store charging, and public Level 2 stations can all help, but they need to be reliable enough for the driver's schedule.

Efficiency matters because it reduces how often the car needs to charge. A smaller, efficient EV with good charging behavior may be easier to live with than a larger model that consumes more energy every mile.

The test drive should include the vehicle's route planning and charging interface. Shoppers should understand plug type, charging curve, preconditioning behavior, and whether the app makes public charging easier.

Apartment EV ownership is a routine question, not an ideology question. If the charging routine is calm, the vehicle can make sense. If the routine is fragile, a hybrid may be the better choice.
